As a photographer you see many things which escape the eye of the average person. Its not that the world is invisible to others, rather that the elements that comprise it are either isolated or included to create an artistic interpretation.
My first real involvement in photography was in the production of audio visual presentations back in the 80s. It was one size fits all back then – a Pentax K1000 with a 50mm lens. Results were sufficiently encouraging and through travel I took the opportunity to explore nature in its more expressive moments. Having taken up the practice of meditation many years earlier I found photography to be a perfect complement in that observation was an integral part of both activities. Hence street photography is well represented in my portfolio.
One aspect of photography that I have always enjoyed whether in my own work or that of others is the ambiguity that is sometimes conveyed by an image. I have for some years now photographed nature in its various forms – rock structures, water and other elements that populate the natural world. There have been several individual images which by themselves have demonstrated the abstraction and ambiguity that I found so engaging. And it is with this motivation that I began this project of producing a single image comprised of many (sometimes more than 20). The end result resembled none of the individual originals but were more of a fantasy that drew on the imagination and played with the mind.
