Talking ArtZ Episode 19 October 2020 … On this Talking ArtZ Episode 19 October 2020 …
On this episode of BMCAN's Talking ArtZ writer Craig Billingham and visual artist Judith Martinez Estrada talk to Wendy Chai and Brad Diedrich about their work practises and how they are dealing with the COVID-19 lockdown while producing new works.
Judith Martinez Estrada (b. 1973) is an artist, illustrator and graphic designer living and working in the Blue
Mountains, NSW. Martinez graduated from the UNSW Art and Design with a Bachelor of Design in
1996, and is currently completing a Master of Philosophy in Fine Arts at the same institution. Judith is a collector and visual narrator. In her work she explores theories about memory and the use of images and objects found in archives (official and personal). She borrows fragments from the past to create a new present. It displaces people from old images and creates an alternative world around them, exploring the themes of identity, emigration, nostalgia and reinvention.

Craig Billingham migrated to Australia in 1987. His poems have appeared in journals such as Famous Reporter, Snorkel, Going Down Swinging, Meanjin, HEAT, and Antipodes, and a first collection, Storytelling, was published in 2007. He lives in Katoomba, in the Blue Mountains of NSW. He has worked with the Red Room Company in its 2010 collaboration with the Australian Theatre for Young People, where young actors were involved in workshops with contemporary poets and developed their skills in reading and reciting poetry. Craig’s poem “The Fan” was published in 2011 as part of The Red Room Company’s Sun-Herald “Extra” series. He is a Doctor of Arts candidate at the University of Sydney.

Talking ArtZ Episode 18 September 2020 Natasha D Talking ArtZ Episode 18 September 2020 Natasha Daniloff
Blue Mountains landscape and installation artist Natasha Daniloff talks to Wendy Chai and Brad Diedrich about her work practises and how she is dealing with the VOVID-19 lockdown.
Having a unique personal cultural history forms a significant part of Natasha Daniloff’s creative story. A Russian heritage which includes having lived in Iran with her family after escaping the communist regime before coming to Australia, has shaped Natasha’s work as a painter and mixed media artist. Her abundant output reveals her love for landscape work, but also her passionate belief in the arts as curative and formative soul work. Her message is crucial for all of us in the arts during this climate of devaluation. You can find out more about Natasha at natashadaniloff.com. Her website is currently being redesigned by Brad Diedrich and will be updated soon.

BMCAN AUSPICING

What is Auspicing?

Sometimes grants are set up so that only organisations, and not individuals or groups of individuals can apply for them. That doesn’t mean that you have to give up on the idea of applying for that grant. You could still apply for it with the help of an auspice organisation, such as BCMAN.

In the context of grant applications, an auspice organisation is one that actually gets given the grant money on your behalf. They also have the responsibility for making sure that the project gets completed on time.

Auspicing is the management of grant funds for individuals / organisations that are not incorporated or that have very limited infrastructure. Auspicing by BMCAN means that your grant funds are managed on your behalf, and we support the reporting to the funding body at the end of (and occasionally during) the funding period.
